SAN JOSE, Calif. – Two separate lawsuits were filed in the city of San Jose on October 5th alleging both Apple and AT&T, the maker of the iPhone and the official of the iPhone, to conspire and engage in creating a blatantly illegal monopoly and disallowing users from freedom of choice as far as telecom service provider goes. The complaints erupted after Apple recently launched a firmware update that left several thousand unlocked iPhones unusable. The complaints were filed in, first- New York federal court and the other in San Jose State Court respectively seeking class action law suit status against the two companies.
In effect, both the cases are accusing these two IT majors of unjust business practices and breach of antitrust, telecommunications and warranty laws as well. Read more »

After successfully implementing dual touch on touch pads and more recently on the iPhone and iPod touch in touch screens apple is now trying to further revolutionize how you and I interact with our portable devices and handhelds. The buzz is that Apple is exploring touch sensitiveness on devices that also react to the pressure applied and not just touch, the intricacies and details of the technology patent that apple had filed early this year in March but published only on Thursday can be found here.
According to the patent filed by apple for a “Force Imaging Input and Device System”, today’s touch screens and touch pads as limited by their relatively simple input, which track just the location of the finger or stylus on the surface. Apple launched its own suite of work to suit the market needs of an expensive arena. A Mac version of Microsoft office has been around for quite a few years now, but the void was that Mac did not make a version of its less expensive Works suite, so apple stepped in the shoes and completed the job and came up with the iWork. The predecessor to iWork had just two programs which were a combined word processor and a desktop publishing program called the pages and the presentation program called the keynote. iWork’08 brings an up gradation in both of these. iWork ’08 also now incorporates a program called numbers which has a multiple spreadsheet program.
The programs of Pages ’08 also gets a minor overhauling, it now has a significant bunch of new templates in the form of newsletters, reports and a document templates as well as some upgraded new graphic tools. Keynote ’08 has had a more significant overhaul though, which consists of new templates for the purposes of presentation, new special and transition effects and some cool new animation which enables easy animation of text and graphics when making presentations.
Numbers is to an extent more like a desktop publishing program than a spreadsheet program, it in a way that is so synonymous with Apple take a completely different tangent to spreadsheet work, to that of typical work on a spreadsheet like Excel.
The work can be initiated by either opening a blank page or by the selection of one of the templates which have been designed specifically for the tasks like mortgage calculations or expense reports. Then all you need to do is draw a spreadsheet table and enlarge is according to your choice and need.
iWork is worth buying for anyone who needs to constantly do presentations on Mac. The upgraded Keynote is another feature worth spending the dough on, and now with the numbers thrown in for extra measure, it is an infallible companion. The only consideration is that it is not Vista compatible.

The hype is often overrated; we all are quite familiar with the concept. The product often does not match up to the media created, publicity generated hype about a technology. The current topic under discussion is whether the much debated and coveted iPhone deserved the aura created, and whether its touch screen interface actually makes the gadget more intuitive and simpler to use?
There is an opinion in everyone’s mind, but the facts are not mere opinions, they are solid facets of more definitive value.
Well the results of research say that the iPhone is indeed the one gadget that has a life up to the aura created around it even thought it is not the most feature rich gadget.
The devices to be compared are:-
The HTC Touch, a Windows Mobile device which has both the touch screen capacity as well as the standardized button based navigation system. Not yet offered in the U.S carriers yet, it supports a system for both Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth, along with its base on the Windows Mobile 6.0 platform and a 2.8-in., 240-by-320 resolution display and a 2-megapixel camera.
Nokia’s N95, which is of a Symbian Platform based on the Series 60. This provides a storehouse of multimedia even though only with the standardized button based navigation. Having a 5 mega pixel camera with the ability to create VGA like videos of 30 seconds per frame, it can be literally called a powerhouse for multimedia. It also has features like many types of media playback, built in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS and we cannot forget the Bar Code reader along with a huge number of other features. The part about the 2.6 inches, 320 by 240 resolution display also does not stop one from the drool it induces.
Out of these two, same category devices, the realization has now struck that the iPhone is indeed the master of these. Though not a media powerhouse or a windows mobile system, the touch screen user interface does significantly improve its use and its ability ot be intuitive to the consumer.

Being labeled very correctly as the thin and light laptop desktop replacement is the Apple MacBook Pro 17-inch (Core 2 Duo T7700; $3,799 direct). As stated it is thin and light and has a weigh of just 6.7 pounds, but with its awe-inspiring 17 inch widescreen, it is the one computer than can make your trust desktop go from the desk to the bin. Debuted in 2003, Apple has always worked on the form for the MacBook Pro 17-inch, the latest overhauling see the inclusion of Intel’s Centrino Duo platform and for the video lovers, the addition of the 17-inch MacBook Pro along with a 1,920-by-1,200 resolution.
The line is just 1 inch as we all know, the features keep upgrading every six months and it has to be a tough task to handle, but in typical Apple fashion it is being achieved, and being achieved quite well, the peers of this under 7 pounds laptop, the Dell Inspiron 1720 and the HP Pavilion dv9000t (Vista), both have a weight more than 8 pounds.
No tacky colors, no stickers and extra media buttons, this laptop has a completely clean look and is simple in its elegance. The keys show subtlety, with each letter etched out dark on a silver background, which merges into the keyboards as you move away from it. The letters like in the dv9000t (Vista) then seen like an aberration to the beauty of a computer. The keyboard and the aesthetically designed touchpad are both in the centre with respect to the 17 inch drool inducing screen, with just one sole mouse button adding to the look of harmony and symmetry.
The only drawback of this laptop is the low options of less expensive options for configuration. The price paid is slightly high, though what it gets you are the fastest components on earth with the most impressive screen resolution and the new Intel Centrino Duo Platform.
So drool on whether you can afford this baby or not.
